scientific papers published every year — all of them written for other scientists.

~ 40%

of research funded with public money — paid for by the same taxpayers who can't read the results.

Why this exists

Scientific breakthroughs happen every day. Very few people can understand them.

Scientific papers are written for other scientists. This leaves out everyone else: the curious, the students, the journalists, the kids, the experts in adjacent fields, the taxpayers who paid for the research.

The result is a widening cultural divide around science — at exactly the moment we need the opposite. Now I Get It! exists to close it, one paper at a time.

Three modes

Same paper. Translated for different audiences.

Pick the lens before you translate. Or run it more than once — every translation is a separate page in your gallery.

Native For a technical audience

Same structure and terminology as the paper, just reinterpreted for web. Use when you want a page that complements the original paper.

Non-technical For an intelligent audience

Jargon replaced. Context added. Concepts explained in plain language. The default for curious readers without the field background. Cross-disciplinary reading made fast.

Kid-friendly For curious little ones

The paper as a story. Narrative voice, illustrations, fun designs. Great for kids of all ages. Parents and teachers love this one.

You saw a paper on Twitter. You want to actually understand it.

Cross-field reading

Rapid orientation in an unfamiliar field. Skim three papers in the time it took to skim one.

Kids

Introduce a child to amazing science in language they can actually follow.

Companion pages

Professors and labs publishing readable web versions of their own papers.

Due diligence

VCs and analysts getting through a stack of technical papers without a PhD in every field.

Internal explainers

Engineers translating dense architecture papers to share with teammates.

Translation between languages

Convert an English paper into a Spanish web page — or any other language pair.

How it works

Three steps. Yours forever.

01

Upload your PDF

Drop any scientific paper — arXiv, bioRxiv, a journal PDF, your lab's preprint, a doctoral thesis. We handle papers up to about 20 MB.

02

We translate it

Pick a reading mode — Native, Non-technical, or Kid-friendly. You have the option of choosing a theme and can even add custom instructions.

Common questions

Stuff people ask.

What does it cost?

A single credit costs $3. Save money by purchasing credit packs. No subscription required! You can process as many or as few papers as you like.

Can I restrict who sees the result?

Yes — all translations are private by default. They sit in your personal gallery. From there you can make a page shareable via link or fully public (it will appear in the Public Gallery). Note: we take copyright seriously. Don't share translations from copyrighted works you don't own the rights to.

Can I edit the output?

Yes. Text and formulas (KaTeX-rendered) are editable on any translation you own. Charts and diagrams are drawn by code at load time — to change one, re-process the PDF. You can also add custom instructions before translating.

What kinds of papers work?

We've translated thousands of papers. Some up to several hundred pages long and many in languages other than English. When you upload a paper, we calculate the number of credits required to translate it and ask for your approval before we start.

Where can I find scientific papers?

Great question! You can find scientific papers on the web in many places. Our favorites are open access platforms like arXiv and bioRxiv. You can also find papers in journals like PLOS and APS.
